Red Dawn:                                                                                                       6/17/02

An amazing thing occurred today.  I just watched “Red Dawn” on my laptop with my host-father, who served in the Soviet army in the early 80’s, when we were the big bad enemy.  Fore those that don’t recall this b-movie, it was about the soviets and Cuba invading the US.  It was pretty damn strange to watch this with someone who grew up as a soviet…but, I guess times have changed, we laughed through most of it, although he doesn’t speak any English.  Mostly, he wants me to try to copy the DVD to a VCR tape, so I guess I’ll live to see another day.

Also, they inadvertently let it slip that the room I’m sleeping in is the master bedroom.  I didn’t see any other rooms, but I guess I just didn’t think about it.  Apparently, this couple is sleeping on the couch for the 10 weeks I am here, while I take their bedroom.  The thought is making me ill, but I know there is no changing it, as the PC has specific rules about what accommodations you require, and there’s no breaking them.

I don’t know what to do about this, the bedroom is completely cleaned out except for a desk, a bed, and a wardrobe, all required by the Peace Corps.  So, I’m thinking it wouldn’t be easy for them to just slide back in here, if there was even a REMOTE chance that they’d take me up on an offer to do so.  I have to sleep on this one, its still got me floored.
